Across the Universe by Beth Revis is something I would love to see more of, YA Science Fiction. It has a mash of elements dystopian, murder mystery, romance, cryogenics, and a spaceship hurling across space to a new earth. Like Pink much of this story centers on how Amy can fit into a new world and stay true to herself.
Amy’s dilemma, she was awakened too early. Her parents are still frozen and not scheduled to thaw until a lifetime later. The current occupants on the ship have interbred and no one looks anything like her. No one else has memories of Earth. To make matters worse, her unthawing wasn’t an accident. Someone tried to kill her.
Without giving too much of the plot away, I enjoyed going to the author’s website and learning her inspirations http://www.bethrevis.com/for-readers/. Cruise ship to space ship. Some of my favorite all time reads were inspirations to her. I can see the influence of the City of Ember by Jeanne Du Prau and of course one of my all time classic favorites Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.
Books are so entwined and become inspirations for later tales. It’s wonderful to see the journey. What’s your favorite new Science Fiction novel?
