Secret Daughter A Novel by Shilpi Somaya Gowda was an extremely enjoyable read. It follows the lives of two mothers of a young Indian girl, Kavita the birthmother who gave her up for adoption so she would not be killed like her first daughter and Somer the American doctor who adopted her when she found she could not carry a child to term.
Asha is a bright child who wonders about her Indian heritage and eventually wins a fellowship to go to Mumbai and write about the poor children in the world’s largest ghetto. She learns about herself and the circumstances about her birth, but mainly she discovers truths about mothers’ love and how it connects people in different walks of life. A great satisfying read!
